1. Alpine Dachsbracke
The Alpine Dachsbracke is a small breed of dog of the scent hound type originating in Austria. The Alpine Dachsbracke was bred to track wounded deer as well as boar, hare, and fox. It is highly efficient at following a trail even after it has gone cold. The Alpine Dachsbracke is very sturdy, and Austria is said to be the country of origin.
2. Austrian Black and Tan Hound
It is thought to be the true descendant of the original Celtic Hounds, although there is no known history of the Austrian Black and Tan Hound until after the middle of the 19th century. This large-sized hound was used for tracking wounded game, most commonly hare, in high altitudes.
Colouring in this breed is highly important; it must be black with small, clearly defined, light to dark fawn markings. Two fawn marks above the eyes must be present. It is not a dog wanting to be in a city. A suitable home will be in a rural area where the dog will have lots of space to run unrestricted by a leash. It loves to work.
3. Austrian Pinscher
The Austrian Pinscher (Österreichischer Pinscher) is a medium-sized breed of pinscher-type dog from Austria, where dogs of the type were originally farm dogs, keeping barns free of rats and acting as home guards, livestock guardians, and drovers.
The breed is described as “a pleasant companion” for rural and suburban areas. The breed standard describes the ideal Austrian Pinscher’s temperament and character as playful, not inclined to be a hunter, and being an “incorruptible guard”.
4. Styrian Coarse-haired Hound
The Styrian Coarse-haired Hound, (German: Steirische Rauhhaarbracke) is a breed of medium-sized hound dog originated in the Austrian province of Styria. It is bred as a scenthound, for hunting boar in mountainous terrain. The breed is one of the large Austrian Bracke.
The breed name refers to the coat, which is harsh and rough (although not shaggy). Coat colours are red and fawn; a white mark on the chest may be present. The breed tolerates extremes of temperature well, and has remained a healthy breed through “refresher breeding”
5. Tyrolean Hound
The Tyrolean Hound is a breed of dog that originated in Tyrol also called the Tiroler Bracke or Tyroler Bracke, This medium-sized hound has broad flat ears set high on the head. They have a thick double coat including a coarse undercoat, and the rear legs are well feathered. There are two main colours, red, and black and tan, both of which may have white markings. It has a fast gait and can be used for either tracking or hunting.
This breed of dog is a patient and passionate hunting dog also known for courage and can handle almost any terrain. He has a great scenting ability that can be useful for game catching. However, this dog can make a nice family companion as they are friendly and even-tempered but at the same time can be an independent hunter.
