Belahi is a dual-type cattle reared for milk and draught by Gujjar community in foothills of Haryana. Belahi is maintained under low input migratory system. Belahi cow produces about 3.25 Kg of milk per day.
Belahi cattle have a reddish coat colour with white face and dewlap and black colour muzzle in the majority of the animals. Animals were found to be unique and possess distinct phenotypic appearance, from extant cattle breeds in the region. Belahi cattle had medium stature with moderate milk potential under a low input system. The bulls were used for transportation and draft power in agriculture fields. Young bull calves of Belahi cattle are sold to farmers in Himachal Pradesh, as these bulls have a market there since they are used to plough the agriculture fields of hilly terrain. The temperament of these animals was moderate to furious.
Belahi animals are dual-purpose and contribute in terms of milk, draft power and manure /dung.
