The Baherie cattle found on the coast of the Massawa region in eastern Eritrea. Bahrain means cattle from Sea or Ocean. These alternative names suggest recent origins of the cattle from Arabia and a close relationship with the cattle of Somalia. They are in the Somali Shorthorned zebu subgroup. Baherie is small with short horns and its colour varies from fawn to reddish brown.

They are used for milk and meat.
